Reflection #5
The Pro-D Day presentation I wanted to attend this week was the session discussing how National Film Board of Canada films can be used in the classroom for various age groups. While I had technical difficulties and was not able to actually attend the session, I did receive the resource that was offered from the session which I will be discussing in this post.
The first resource which was shared and is very useful for incorporating film from the NFB is the NFB Education page from their website. This page offers many resources that would be beneficial to include in different classrooms. Some of these resources include “mini lessons” that discuss select short films and offer different activities to go along with that film such as this one which reflects on the Holocaust.

A second resource that this website has is a list of various educational playlists which separate different films into the concepts they are discussing as well as the age levels for these films. For example there is a playlist that is focused on Jazz music that is labelled for ages 12-14 and features 13 short films that all fit within that category.

What was also included in the resource given from this presentation were specific mini lessons to use in the classroom as well as various other short film series and study guides to go along with these series. All of these resources are very useful and do an excellent job of providing free access to film that can be used for various purposes in the classroom.
I love film and would love to teach a film class one day and also see there to be a lot of value in teaching with multimedias such as film in the classroom for any age group or subject. Because of this, resources like the National Film Board of Canada education webpage are very useful to me and are helpful in accumulating a toolbox of resources I feel comfortable and prepared to use in my future classroom.
