Reflection #8

This week we talked about EdCamps and participated in one as a class. The EdCamp that I took part in discussed building student skills.

What I found interesting about the concept of EdCamp is the method in which the sessions are approached. I think that allowing people to choose what they want to learn about and then engaging in discussion with others who are interested in the same topic is a good way to promote collaboration. One of the downfalls I see in using this technique is that some people might not know what they want to learn about and are more interested in learning from someone who has a concrete plan about what they will be sharing.

The topic that my group was focused on was discussing how to build student skills such as typing skills which are especially relevant in the classroom today as we move to a more online learning approach. One of the activities that we suggested would be useful for teaching typing skills which we recall using in our own classrooms growing up was Tux Typing which may be dated but still discusses the topic that we wanted to address.
