Reflection #6

This week I partook in the field trip to the Pacific School of Innovation and Inquiry. I found this field trip to be very exciting and I found that it was an environment that I would love to teach in for multiple reasons.

At this school, students are in charge of their own learning and the work that they do is focused on self led inquiry projects that are supervised by the teachers at the school. A big pro of this approach is that it allows students to get excited and invested in the work they do and allows them to build on their own learning as well as develop skills such as autonomy and creativity.

I could definitely see myself working at a school like this as I think it is a great approach to student learning and in helping students develop skills that will help them into adulthood. A downfall of a school like this is that it is a lot of extra work for the teachers to make sure what the students are doing somehow aligns with the BC curriculum which would be draining for the teachers but I think that the end result would be worth it for me personally and my desired teaching style.

Below is a video I found of the founder of the PSII talking about inquiry based learning.
